Hmmm… where should magical realism stories go? Into the “fantasy” category?

    What do you think?

Magical realism, magic realism, or marvelous realism is a style of fiction that paints a realistic view of the modern world while also adding magical elements. It is sometimes called fabulism, in reference to the conventions of fables, myths, and allegory. Wikipedia

I’ve seen it tucked into several subgenres. But all-in-all I believe it falls under the umbrella of modern fantasy and science fiction.

You can jump onto Amazon or books and look where they place it, when it comes to marketing this is important to look into. There are a lot of subcategories and things you can use to be more specific about it. Also, you can find comparable books and look them up to see where they are.

I’m seeing a lot more books that I would consider magical realism placed in science fiction right now.
