Group Description
An Author’s ultimate goal is not simply to write but *to be read*. That’s what we do here.
And, as iron sharpens iron, we work to help each other become better, stronger, more capable writers.
_____PLEASE READ OUR RULES:_____
Those brave enough can submit up to 10 pages (about 2500 words) of their work for public review and ask for specific critique.
Why only 10 pages? It forces you to focus on specific problem areas and ask specific questions to try and achieve specific results. It also ensures that you are more likely to get people to actually read your work and offer their help.
If you choose to submit, please submit with up to *3 specific questions* so that we can try and actually assist you in the way that you need to be assisted. (Note: Those offering critique are not bound to only answer those questions).
If you choose to take part and offer critique in this group, you agree to abide by these rules:
1. Above all: Be kind. If you cannot possibly frame your critique in a way that builds positive discussion without being hurtful then *do not post* until you’ve found a way to do so.
2. The purpose of this group is to offer constructive criticism. Critiques must be observational in nature and, preferably, submitted in the form of a question – the ultimate goal being to get the author to reflect on the intent of their work and if it is landing in the way that they’d hoped. *No personal attacks will be tolerated.*
Examples:
A. This is an interesting exchange but it isn’t reading clearly. Who is speaking here?
B. Your character’s response here seems rather extreme, what is motivating it?
3. More rules will be added as needed but hopefully we’ll be able to keep it at two. If you’ve ever been through the hell of writing alone into the void, then you’ll completely understand why we want to keep things positive here.
Happy writing, all!
