Are We a Financial Literate or Idiot?

We have to admit that there are millions of financial articles floating around (including mine) and we have trouble understanding everyone of it. How to really make sense of it?

To be a financial literate is not a simple feat especially when one’s education and career is not anything linked to it.

But everyone wants to retire early, everyone wants to be a millionaire, everyone wants to be an investor and of course everyone wants to achieve the highest accolade “Financial Independence, Retire Early (FIRE)” status.

It can be quite daunting for one to attempt to be a financial literate. When an insurance agent or a banker come to you and sell you the financial products, all the jargons and figures are just simply too much to swallow. But of course, end of the day what you want to hear is whether you can earn some decent profits and attaining your financial goals.

To be a financial literate, it’s really a journey.

One got to read up on financial articles, learning all the various jargons and understanding each one of it. Sometimes it’s important to do some self-learning prior to our talks with bankers and agents as this is also to give yourself some edge to better understand what they are talking about.

In Singapore, it’s not easy to just having a job but it’s also important to equip oneself with savings policies, do some investments and not forgetting to understand how our CPF works. CPF system in Singapore has one core function and that is to help all Singaporeans to save adequately for their retirement needs.

There are just too many financial websites and I’m just going to list a few here which I think it’s pretty good enough for financial idiots to get going. I must say up front by no one is this article affiliated to any of them. Feel free to let me know if you want to add more to this list. 🙂

I must applaud one particular person, Mr Loo Cheng Chuan who is the founder of the 1M65 Movement. You can read more about him here. He shared his insights about how one can leverage on our CPF to generate more interests and ultimately becoming a millionaire when we retire. He has a Telegram group, the link is here. There are many gurus inside this Telegram group where you can seek advice from.

Whether we choose to be a financial literate or an idiot, it’s really up to us. I wish you all the best in your financial journey and remember, it is a journey so let’s learn from one another along the way.

Share with me your financial views. 🙂
