Take Time To Think And Relax

Once upon a time there lived a woodcutter in a village. A woodcutter went to a lumber merchant for work and got it. His pay was good and the working conditions were good, so the woodcutter wanted to do his best work.

Now on the first day of work his boss gave him an ax and showed him the area where the woodcutter had to work.

On the evening of the first day of work, the woodcutter bought 18 trees. His boss congratulated him on his work and said, “Go.”

Encouraged by his boss’s words, the woodcutter worked harder than before but still managed to take only 16 traces. The next day he worked harder but again could only bring 13 traces.

Even after trying hard, he was bringing less trees day by day. This made the woodcutter very sad.

The woodcutter thought he might be losing his strength so he went to his boss and explained everything and apologized saying, “I don’t understand what’s going on.”

His boss understood the problem and asked, “When was the last time you sharpened your ax?”

The woodcutter replied, “A sharp axe? I didn’t have time to do that because I was too busy cutting trees.”

Ethics: Our lives are the same. We get so busy with everything that we don’t take time to look after ourselves. There is nothing wrong with activities and hard work, but it makes us lose sight of something more important.

We all need time to relax and think and reflect, learn and grow. If we don’t take enough time for ourselves, we will become lazy and lose our effectiveness.
