We spent the holidays with extended family and created our own gingerbread houses from store-bought kits.
I decided to take it upon myself to judge the gingerbread house contest and strolled around, commenting on everyone’s artistic abilities.
When I saw what a lovely house my son had built, I was astounded.
He is a recent STEM graduate who is better known for his math skills than his artistic abilities. I complimented him on his home’s beautiful design and expressed my admiration for him.
“You’re proud of me for making a gingerbread house?” he inquired.
He then listed his accomplishments, mentioning that he had double-majored in college and received multiple prestigious grants and internships.
I told him that I was proud of him for stepping outside of his comfort zone to demonstrate his artistic abilities.
Life is amusing.
