Guardian

The front door closed, and Amelia hid beneath her mountain of blankets. “Floofy, he’s home. Floofy?”

She quietly crept out of her bed, knelt down, and looked underneath the bed frame. No Floofy.

A clamor arose inside her closet, and the pale glow of her nightlight drew long shadows across the floor.

“Floofy?” She tiptoed across the floor to the closet and peeked in.

Her stuffed bunny rabbit was sorting through a box. “Not sharp enough. Not long enough. Ah, ha!” He raised a letter opener above his head and smiled at her.

“Tonight, m’lady, his reign of terror ends.”
