Catching up with Koral

I know Koral as blogger, photographer and virtual assistant. Someone who works exceptionally hard and a great supporter within the blogging community. We met on Twitter and did a few blogging related projects together. I seriously hope that one day we get to meet and hangout somewhere cool. This is me catching up with Koral, as its been a while since we actually had a chat on any social site.

Please introduce yourself to cosmicTaryn readers.

Hello everyone! I am Koral Dawn, I’m from Pennsylvanis, USA and I consider myself a jack of all trades. I run a small business as a virtual assistant, and work full-time for a great company, as well as going back to school for my bachelor’s degree in Business Administration. I used to run The Unsanity Blog but that will soon be incorporated into my business website where I will post updates and mental health related ideas like The Unsanity was. I miss it dearly, but there’s only so many hours in the day! I live with my husband and three crazy cats, and as you can see by my business logo, they’re precious. We’re looking to buy a home soon finally and find a place to call our own and let me tell you, it’s stressful!

You have a lovely collection of photographs on your website. How did you get into photography?

You can find my photography currently on (again, will be migrating to my business website soon!) but thank you! I used to dabble in photography professionally, but now it’s more of a hobby and I love to photograph nature still. It brings peace to my soul.

Why did you start blogging?

So I have had The Unsanity Blog since I was 18 years old. It started out just being someplace to share photos and updates regarding my life and a place to tell my story. I am now turning 31. It’s always been there, but in 2018 when I lost my government job working with the mental health of our military, I decided to convert my blog to an all-encompassing mental health advice blog and have guest bloggers from around the world. I have had over 70 people guest on my blog sharing their stories to break the stigma. It was the best thing I had ever done, and I really hope to do it again sometime in the future.

What is the most surprising thing you discovered during your blogging career?

How much it takes to promote and upkeep something on social media now for it to be seen! As a virtual assistant, it’s so hard to stay up to date on the ever-changing social media platforms and algorithms. Blogging in itself seems like a full-time job which I already have one of and a side hustle of being a VA.

If memory serves, you had a rather impressive score for one of the marketing courses you did. What advice would you give aspiring bloggers to get themselves out there?

Why thank you! Yes I am in school again online for a Business Administration degree with a concentration in Marketing. I received my very first perfect grade in Social Media Communications class and I am damn proud of it! In terms of advice for aspiring bloggers to put themselves out there – don’t be afraid to consistently post, and post at the correct times! Research research research, the best times to post change all the time and it’s hard to keep track unless you are very diligent about it. Have friends repost and share your websites, leave reviews for others and ask for reviews as well in return and write testimonials for your friends. Don’t be afraid to reach out and ask for help or opinions. It won’t hurt anything, you just need to put yourself out there and chase the dream.

What do you think is the best social media strategy for getting more visitors to a blog?

I learned this in my blogging time – look for titles that convert and write more and more. Promoting your content on all sites and making them easily sharable are some of the top ways to get visibility on your blog or website. Easier said than done, but create content that can easily go viral and offer freebies. I used to offer freebies such as printable signs that you could frame, or recipe cards, Christmas tags or even a calendar design.

Outside of blogging, what do you enjoy doing?

A lot of my time recently has been sleeping unfortunately, LOL! It’s my favorite activity. But I do still enjoy photography, walking and going to farmers markets when the weather is nice. I spend a lot of my free time also on the computer for school and for my business.

How do you relax and unwind?

Relaxing and unwinding is a rarity for me, but I usually nap and watch a TV show. Sometimes I’ll throw my headphones on and listen to some relaxing music to get some peace and do a small meditation.

What would you choose as your mascot/avatar/spirit animal?

Oh this one is easy – a Raven. I feel like the Raven represents my personality and spirit very well – Native Elders believed that the raven could help one change their outlook and give them the courage to enter into new realms. Across many cultures, ravens and crows symbolize the sun because their plumage shines so black and bright that it suggests “an ability to have survived the sun.”

How do you want to improve yourself in the next year?

I would like to lose 50 pounds and be healthy again before I get even more off track… I went ahead and bought a bike just today! I am hoping it helps and I also started stretching again. I need motivation, so if anyone has anything please send it my way!

Off the top of your head, who would you give a shout out to on Twitter?

Oh! I know this – All my blogging friends!

Is there a way for your fans to connect with you?

Instagram is the best way!

Care to share what you will be working on next?

Incorporating my blog to my website as well as trying to get more clients to give to my husband and working together with him! Maybe then I will have more time for the blog, haha!
