I saw a man in Petersburg,

They say he’s so delighting!

And even though I did not show,

He really is inviting!

I met a man in Petersburg,

I felt like I was gliding!

He taught me how to sing and dance,

Romantic was I finding.

I knew a man in Petersburg,

Who put my heart in hiding!

He broke my soul endowed with woe,

Forever is it biding.

There is a man in Petersburg,

They say he’s slowing dying!

And even though I will not go,

I cannot help my crying.
