Are You Still Here?

How did you turn into a stranger

was it all in one night

closing my eyes with moonshine

seeing you in the morning

wondering why you stood there

or kept talking

as if you knew me

or this house

was still our home?

I wonder how love goes away

if it’s a lightning pulse

that takes it out of soul

or is it a slow smoldering

each tiny thing added

on top of wave

growing ever higher

until it topples

tearing apart everything that said

you and me?

If you are still my own

the future written for two souls

find the right words

to tell me trust is not gone

and your hand

is not that of a stranger

getting ready to go on,

on path I cannot join.
