The Human Clockwork

Crick. Crick. Crick.

Shortened. Lengthened.

Slowly. Quickly.

Tick. Tick. Tick.

People screaming. Crying.

People shouting. Laughing.

People talking. Seeking.

People whisp’ring. Hiding.

Crick. Crick. Crick.

Forgotten. Ignored.

Buried. Hidden.

Tick. Tick. Tick.

Children playing. Pretend.

Children growing. Depend.

Children loving. Befriend.

Children breaking. Offend.

Crick. Crick. Crick.

Repetition. Always.

Exact. Repeat.

Tick. Tick. Tick.

Humans—Always the same

Humans—No higher aim

Humans—Docile, so tame

Humans—Kept in a frame

Crick. Tick. Crick.

No pause. Not now. Not yet.

Never. Ever. Ending.

Tick. Crick. Tick.

  1. Truly outstanding, classical style! I like it! Keep up the good work. It would make a good children’s book illustrated with pictures. I can picture this with water-color paint illustrations of children playing and people going about their lives. (Not saying that what you wrote is for children, it is just reminiscent of higher quality illustrated children’s rhyming books).

    1. Thanks Conan! I appreciate the encouragement! I can definitely see it as a children’s book now that you’ve pointed it out. I should definitely consider it; I feel like it would do well to help illustrate emotions as well.
