Life is Rocknrolll – Becoming a Rocknrolll Manager

I had just made my decision to only live on my creativity. This means not writing or creating for others, but only for myself or at least not for the industry anymore. On June 19, in Hannover. My son-in-law-to-be told me that he has worked as an extra at the opera since he was a teenager beside his business job. Sounds cool. I sent my profile to an agency. Some weeks later, I had a few jobs already.

I contacted the location where I organized my first event after 30 years. I now manage one event a month at ART-Stalker Berlin.

Not at the moment though, due to lockdown #4 (or 5 or 6?). I’m finally writing more on Medium, which I’ve meant to do since summer 2018. Yes, and on September 4, I got the following life-changing text on Messenger from my favorite guitarist in Germany.

Artist management?
After 30 years. How does the music business work today?

I have no idea. I need close help. So I did what I usually do in such cases when I don’t have an answer right away.

  • Telephone.
  • Call.
  • Ask.

A few days later, meeting with an old friend who has been a musician and producer for over 40 years. Christoph, I asked, tell me the music biz rules in effect today. Finally, 3 hours later, I had the basics on screen. Business is business. Anyway, I know what makes artists tick.

And I know the music industry rules of the game.

A few weeks later, I was on my way to the cradle of German hard rock, Hannover. Yes. The city of The Scorpions.

Big Jack’s Revenge.

A gang of natural-born rockers, best agers, since before their birth somehow into rocknrolll. Too old for a boy group, but too loud for…

It was love at first sight. And now, off to the adventure. All in.

Rocknrolll shalt rule again!

  • By the way, how do you like that slogan?
  • How do we build a brand together?
  • Why do gentlemen in their prime want to do it again?
  • What is their message, and why so loud?
  • Are there earplugs with the band logo? (cool merch idea)
  • Which rollator brand will be our sponsor?

Questions over questions.

Yes, we …
