Sheba was fearless and black with the beauty of the midnight sky.

I was shy and brown.

We spent endless recesses on the swings –

Heads back

Arms thrown open

Eyes wide shut

And faces bright with little girl dreams.

I would always laugh aloud and pump my legs like a body pocessed

because to me,  it always felt

Sheba is fearless and black with beauty of the midnight sky.

I am shy and brown.

Sheba has left me now,

soaring beyond even our wildest dreams.

I remain here still,

too afraid to let my feet leave the ground.
