In Search of the Best Ribs

Lately, when I’ve been on a trip away, I always find myself searching for somewhere to eat that does something I love but don’t often have at home — ribs.

I can tell you — I’ve searched long, and I’ve searched hard, and finally, I believe I have found the world’s best ribs. From my doorstep to the ends of the UK, and even to Europe, I have searched far and wide as I’ve pilgrimaged my way to finding my favorite ribs. What can I say? I’m just a man who’s very passionate about ribs!

There have been a few close contestants along the way, and I am more than happy to share them with you, and that’s because I’m pretty obsessed with ribs.

So let’s get to it, so I can let you in on what might be the world’s best ribs!

4. Hickory’s Smokehouse — Ribs and Wings Combo

A short 10 minute walk away from my house is Hickory’s Smokehouse, home to the best ribs in town, at a very affordable price. I like to go for the ribs and wings combo because that’s just how I roll, and they my friends are hard to beat indeed.

You can see what the combo looks like in the photo above. I’m not mad about the corn on the cob, but it looks all cool and American and shit, so I let them leave it on the plate just for that effect.

Hickory’s Smokehouse gets the number 4 spot for me.

3. Quinn’s — Ribs and Rainbow Slaw

Next up, we have Quinn’s Bar and Restaurant, a nice little cozy pub in the seaside town of Newcastle.

Quinn’s — Ribs and Rainbow Slaw

Just look at it in all its glory; sitting there topped with a big whack of tobacco onions and Rainbow slaw slathered all over it — delightful stuff.

Newcastle was the holiday hometown I remember going to as a kid. But now as a 30-year-old man, I have a new reason to return to this spot — available there are some unbelievably tasty ribs.

I know you might be thinking right now, “This guy really is passionate about ribs.” To which I reply, “You’d be correct.”

In third place, Quinn’s steals the spot. It goes down well with a nice pint of Guinness too I might add.

2. Zagreb — Ribs and Wedges

I’ve even ventured the whole way to Croatia just to enjoy some ribs! OK, perhaps I’m exaggerating — I was traveling through Europe just for the sheer fun of it. But I did happen to stumble across a local restaurant, and based on my addiction to ribs, it caught my attention from the menu.

Zagreb — Ribs and Wedges

Now, in all honesty, it saddens me that I can’t remember the name of this restaurant, however, I did return for seconds the following evening, for more of these amazing ribs.

What I do remember is that it was about 50 to 100 yards as I entered the Old Town, and on the right-hand side, where the restaurant was sitting that this beautiful rack of ribs could be found. Try your best to find them when you’re in Zagreb, I promise you will not be disappointed.

These ribs were in fact my number 1 ribs in the world until recently. Then something happened, and I knew from that point on my world would never be the same again.

  1.  Spitfire BBQ, Bristol — Ribs and Smoked Sausage Combo

A few months back, I spent a few days in Bristol. That’s when it happened; that’s when I found the world’s best ribs.

Now, this is something that I don’t take lightly (because as you know by now, I have a bit of a ribs habit going on). To be crowned the best ribs, one must satisfy the taste buds in a way that they have never been satisfied before. That’s when upon an online search for my dearest ribs, I came across Spitfire BBQ.

Spitfire BBQ — Ribs and Smoked Sausage

I rocked up to the joint on my first night and my mind was utterly blown. Was it the smoked sausage combo that did it (it probably was the tastiest wiener my mouth has ever graced)? Was it the extra piece of beef brisket that the waitress threw in by mistake (or for good measure)? Or was it the succulent pork ribs themselves which warranted the BBQ dripping off my chin like it was no-one’s business?

There were many reasons that I could find that would make a plate of such deliciousness the world’s best ribs. I had to go back for more, and so I did, not once, not twice, but three times. I had to indulge; I needed more of my ribs. I needed to satisfy my taste buds.

I loved Bristol as a city — it’s cool, hip and has a great nightlife that will be sure to keep you entertained. But it’s also home, in my expert opinion, to the best ribs.

I searched, and I searched, and I finally found the world’s best ribs.

  1. I like girls with nice ribs too
If you can see a girl’s ribs, you might say, she needs a good meal
How about a slice of cabbage
Or maybe a butterfly 🦋 sandwich 🥪 on rye
With a side of donuts and a picture, I mean, pitcher of ⚾️ baseball, I mean, beer
