***A Chance Encounter***
"Are you going to confess to her today?" Jun's friend, Yuuta asked him while they were eating their lunch. They were sitting on the grass under the shade of a tree while watching some students playing baseball.
"Yes." Jun looked up at the sky and smiled widely, his eyes sparkled as he thought of the person who captured his heart. Her face flashed in his mind as he remembered their first meeting.
Even though she was not in front of him, he could perfectly imagine her long shiny hair that enhanced the beauty of her small face and her hazel eyes like stars in the night sky.
"Hey, dude! Come back to earth. Stop dreaming of her." Yuuta snapped his fingers in front of his friend's face when he noticed that his friend was lost in his little world.
"I saw her go to the library. You can go there so that you can confess already. Make your fantasy real." Yuuta said to him while smiling sheepishly and gestured towards the library which was located on the 3rd floor of the building across their location.
Jun was about to reply when someone interrupted.
"Look at him. Talking to himself."
It came from one of the boys on the bench not far away from where they were eating. They could also hear them laughing mockingly, as well as someone saying how Jun was crazy and creepy, and all the insults they threw at Jun.
Jun was saddened by how his other schoolmates treated him. He looked down and instead of feeling sorry for himself he was worried because Yuuta might also be treated as an outcast if he kept on hanging out with him.
Upon seeing the sad expression on his friend's face, Yuuta patted Jun on the shoulder and smiled at him. "Don't mind them, bro. I'm happy to have someone to talk to and besides, I'd rather hang out with you than those girly bastards. Gossiping during lunch, what are they?" Yuuta said loud enough for those who were mocking Jun to hear. The group heard it and left the area. Yuuta sneakered at the sight of them walking away.
Jun smiled at him. He was grateful to have a friend like him. Although he only had one friend, he felt blessed and thankful. After they finished their lunch, Yuuta went to his next class while Jun headed to the library.
"Good luck dude. Tell me the details later, okay? Now go get her." Yuuta said to Jun as he was about to turn to the corner. Jun just smiled and shook his head. He went up the stairs and as he reached the second floor he felt his steps getting heavier and his heart beating faster.
Well, It's now or never. Jun thought and continued to walk towards the library. After logging in, he looked around and found some empty chairs. Some students were busy reading books while others were doing their projects and reports. There were also a few who made the library their sleeping zone.
He sat and looked around. When Jun was about to go out, he saw her standing between the bookshelves and she seemed to be looking for a book.
Maybe she is looking for a book for her research. He thought. He stood up and walked towards her location while he kept repeating the words that he wanted to say to her in his head.
Jun felt lucky that the section was at the far corner of the library and no one seemed to be there except for her. It was the perfect time and place to confess to her. He went to the opposite side of the bookshelf where Megumi was standing and made sure that she was still there. He took a deep breath to relax as sweat began to drip on his forehead. He gathered all the courage that he had and touched the book that was in front of him. He knew that if he removed the book in front of him, he could see her face.
He bit his lower lip and took a deep breath. He had always practiced a million times the lines he was going to say and finally with all the courage he could muster, he said.
"E-ever since I saw you, you ha-have always caught my attention. I ca-cannot fo-forget a-bout you e-ever since. You-you are always in my mind. I know-know th-that you don't know me yet... but I-I I hope you'll a-accept these feelings I have for you and ple-please give me-me a ch-chance to pro-prove to you ho-how de-deep my fe-feelings are. I re-really care a-about you." Jun kept his voice as low as possible just enough that the other person could hear him, and although he knew that he failed to speak fluently he was glad that he could express his feelings. Jun remained standing at the other side of the bookshelf, feeling nervous. He closed his eyes and grabbed the book in the bookshelf and said. "Please go out with me."
"Okay. From now on we are in a relationship." A husky voice said. Jun was confused as he remembered the sweet and low voice of the girl of his dreams, not a husky one. Jun slowly opened his eyes but he didn't see anyone in front.
"..." He looked around and saw Megumi a few steps away across him, looking hurt. Why is she over there? Then, who is---
Jun heard footsteps coming from the other side and saw a handsome guy taller than him walking towards him while smiling and holding a book with his left hand. Jun stepped back but he couldn't step back any farther because he could already feel the wall of the library against his back. Jun gulped and was nervous because he did not know what to do.
How stupid of me. I confessed to the wrong person and what's more... He is a guy! Jun reprimanded himself. He looked at the man again who was walking towards him. He was indeed handsome. He had a perfect posture and height making him look elegant. He could be mistaken for a male model. He was no other than the campus heartthrob, Kazuki.
Kazuki stopped in front of Jun and slowly raised his right hand. Jun thought that Kazuki would punch him which was why he closed his eyes.
I want to find a hole to hide. Why can't the floor just swallow me up? He waited for a few seconds but the painful punch he was expecting didn't happen. He took a big gulp and slowly opened his eyes and looked at the man in front of him. He was greeted with a bright smile. It was so bright like the sun shining in the sky.
"Wow! I didn't know that you like me." Kazuki smiled at him. Jun wanted to wear a pair of sunglasses to protect his eyes from its brightness. He saw Kazuki's right hand on the wall just above his shoulder.
"I think, we should go to another place. We don't want to be interrupted right? This is not the right place for our heartwarming first day as a couple." Kazuki winked at him and placed the book he was holding in his left hand back to the bookshelf. He held Jun's hand and guided him out of the library. Jun was so nervous that he could feel his heart beating faster.
Jun wished that the floor would just swallow him up because of the stares of the students who saw them holding hands while walking out of the library.
