Confetti

You glittered when

you walked into the room—

Exuding confidence like

it was nothing but

a piece of cake.

Still, stillness drapes you better.

You’d rather bloom at your best

while holding up the wall.

Suddenly

Simultaneously

Eyes meet.

Smiles exchange.

The party begins

With just the two of you.

With streamers

And balloons

And candles all around,

you start reaching in anticipation

and realize the expectations.

The cake crumbles before you.

The confetti rushes to the floor.

They remove themselves quietly

in their own celebration:

Crushing the whole world

of someone else.
